Itinerary
The Cathedral of Saint Mary Major , often called Lisbon Cathedral or simply the Sé (Sé de Lisboa), is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Lisbon, Portugal. It is the oldest church in the city, built in 1147. The cathedral has survived many earthquakes and has been modified, renovated and restored several times, resulting in a mix of different architectural styles. It is the seat of the Patriarchate of Lisbon, and has been classified as a National Monument since 1910
The Ruins of the Roman Theater, or Ruins of the Roman Theater dedicated to Nero, are located on the southern slope of the Castle of São Jorge, in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, formerly in the now-defunct parish of Sé, in Lisbon.[1] The theater was built in the 1st century, during the reign of the Roman Emperor Augustus. It was rebuilt during the reign of Emperor Nero, and during the reign of Constantine, it was partially dismantled. Abandoned in the 4th century, it remained buried until 1798, the year in which the ruins were discovered after the 1755 earthquake.
Alfama is the oldest and one of the most typical neighborhoods in Lisbon. Currently, it covers part of the parish of Santa Maria Maior and part of the parish of São Vicente. Its name derives from the Arabic al-hamma (الحمّة), meaning "spring of warm waters, good waters."
One of the most beautiful viewpoints in Town
Located in Largo das Portas do Sol, in its name, in front of the Palácio Azurara, where it is installed in the Fundação Ricardo Espírito Santo Silva, on a privileged balcony on a hill in São Vicente and on two most cenographic points in the city. Dalí we see ourselves as the Igrejas de São Miguel and de Santo Estêvão, the Igreja e Mosteiro de São Vicente de Fora, or the labyrinthine Bairro de Alfama, with the winding streets and roads, patios and traverses, escadarias and slopes, which extend along the Tagus River.
Perched next to the historic Graça Church and Convent, Miradouro da Graça offers one of the city's most romantic and photographed vistas. Sitting under the shade of Mediterranean pine trees, travelers can enjoy a front-row view of the São Jorge Castle, the red roofs of the Baixa district, and the iconic 25 de Abril Bridge stretching across the horizon. It is a favored gathering spot for local artists, musicians, and travelers looking to relax as the sun sets over Lisbon's hills.
Nestled in the historic Graça neighborhood, Miradouro da Senhora do Monte is widely considered the city's highest and most spectacular perch. While other tourist lookouts get overcrowded, this hidden gem offers a sweeping, unobstructed panorama of the city's red-roofed historic center, the sprawling Tagus River, and the majestic São Jorge Castle sitting right across the hillside. It is the ultimate location to capture postcard-perfect photos and experience a classic Lisbon sunset.
Located in the historic Alfama neighborhood, the Panteão Nacional—housed in the majestic Church of Santa Engrácia—is a jaw-dropping monument that took nearly 300 years to complete. Instantly recognizable by its giant white dome shaping the Lisbon skyline, this grand building serves as the final resting place for the country’s most celebrated historical figures, artists, and presidents.
Nestled at the base of the historic Alfama slope, the Chafariz d’El-Rei is a hidden-in-plain-sight masterpiece with a legacy spanning over 800 years. First documented in 1220, this striking, neoclassical wall fountain was the city’s very first public water source and the beating hydraulic heart of maritime Lisbon. Crowned by an extraordinary, fairy-tale 19th-century neo-Moorish palace, this site offers an incredible window into the strict social hierarchies, intense daily dramas, and global seafaring history that shaped Portugal’s capital.
Widely known by locals as Terreiro do Paço (Palace Square), Praça do Comércio is one of the largest and most breathtaking public squares in Europe. Framed by symmetrical, bright yellow pombaline arcades on three sides and opening directly onto the shimmering Tagus River on the fourth, this monumental square was built as a symbol of Lisbon’s wealth and resilience following the devastating 1755 earthquake.

About Lisbon
Lisbon spills down its hills to the Tagus estuary, a city of tiled façades, rattling yellow trams, viewpoint terraces and late, unhurried dinners.
The old quarters hold most of the charm. Alfama's tangle of lanes climbs to São Jorge Castle and echoes with fado in the evening, the Baixa's orderly grid runs down to the vast Praça do Comércio on the river, and Bairro Alto and Chiado mix bookshops and cafés by day with bars by night. Viewpoints such as Santa Luzia and Senhora do Monte frame red rooftops and shining water.
Top-ranked sights in Lisbon: Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio), Pena National Palace (Palacio Nacional da Pena), Alfama.
