Itinerary
After a 50-minute drive from Avignon, your tour guide will first take you to the world-known Sénanque Abbey, a wonderfully preserved 12th-century monastery nestled among lush forests and beautiful lavender fields. Widely considered among the region’s top attractions, don't miss the opportunity to admire this gem of Romanesque architecture during the blooming season of lavender (in full bloom starting from June 20-25). Please be aware that during this day trip time doesn't allow a visit of the interiors.
On the way to the old town of Gordes, a photo stop at Gordes' famous overlook is planned. Here you'll have the chance to admire one of the most incredible panoramas of the Luberon valley, where vineyards and olive groves stretch out as far as the eye can see, surrounded by gentle green mountains. Minutes later, your driver will drop you off by the town's castle from where you can easily explore the cobbled streets of this world-known hilltop town and admire stunning views of the Luberon landscapes. Plenty of shopping opportunities are available here, as well as small cafés and icecream shops. Meet your tour guide again at the meeting point and head to another wonderful village.
At around 1 pm your tour guide will drop you in the village of Roussillon, where you'll have a longer time to spend than in the other towns. This allows everyone to have lunch in one of the cafés or snack bars and to explore the colourful streets of Roussillon, where every house is painted a different shade of ochre. If you opt for a quick lunch on the go, you'll also have enough time to walk the beautiful Ochre Trail (entrance fee not included - 4€/adult), a developed pathway through the ombre coloured cliffs of a former ochre mine.
Following the blooming stage of lavender, during the day we will take you to the brightest and most scenic lavender fields of that moment. In June we will focuse on the wide lavender fields on the hillsides of the Luberon valley, whereas later in the season, normally after July 1, we will drive you to higher areas, like the high plateau of Sault. At least two long photo stops are scheduled, both in June and in July.

5A fabulous agrotour of the Luberon Valley
We had a great experience on the “purple tour.” Nicolas was a friendly, accommodating guide whose knowledge of the area really enhanced our experience. The drive offered amazing scenery of farms, vineyards, orchards and olive groves. Each village we visited contained beautiful, historic buildings, breathtaking views, and charming shops and cafes. We took our tour in late July, so a lot of the lavender was past peak, but Nicolas still took us to a part of the Sault plateau where lavender was still blooming. There, we visited a working lavender farm and even got to meet the farm owner and see how lavender is distilled. It was a special experience in agrotourism. The one thing that was a little confusing at our initial meetup was that the van was not marked and the meetup spot was a busy bus stop, so we weren’t sure what to look for. However, Nicolas spotted us and must have sensed that we looked lost so he came to introduce himself. Overall, a spectacular tour of a lovely region with a great guide.
5Magnificent Experience
The Lavender tour exceeded our expectations. Don't waste your time looking for other companies to use, ProVans were perfect in every way. Nicolas was very knowledgeable, helpful and caring. As a disabled tourist with walking difficulties, I managed to access most of the places we visited. Nicolas structured the day perfectly, allowing enough time at each stop to discover what we wanted to. He gave us enough information, but not too much, before reaching each stop. I particularly liked it that on the way back to Avignon, he let us all recover from an amazing day.
5The only way to see Provence
Highly recommend. We booked as an extra excursion off our Viking River cruise because I wanted to ensure we would see the Lavender fields in July. Veronica was on time and gave great overviews of the area and the places we went. We also went into Gordes to see the beautiful town on the hill, had an hour to grab a bite to eat and explore the town on our own and then off to a beautiful small lavender farm. The farm had a cute little store front to purchase all the lavender products and we were able to take our own beautiful pictures in the fields. The bees were buzzing and the butterflies were all around us. Then we visited a great Olive Oil farm where they grow and produce their own olive oils. Again top notch experience. We finished the day with a quick and late lunch but the over all trip was perfect. Veronica communicates so well and is fast and efficient. I also felt safe with her driving us everywhere. It was truly an amazing tour and one that I would recommend to everyone! We were a total of 6 people and were all comfortable with the seating. Oh and when we went to the farm since it is an active farm and not one for all the tourist we were the only ones there! Beautiful pictures with just us.
5Amazing Lavender Adventure
We had a wonderful excursion with Veronica. She was a knowledgeable and skilled guide who made sure that we had the once in a lifetime experience that we were seeking.
5A Highlight of Our Provence Trip
This was one of the highlights of our time in Provence. Nicolas was an excellent guide—friendly, professional, and passionate about the region. His commentary during the drive gave us a much better understanding of the history and culture of the villages we visited. The tour was well paced, with enough free time to wander, take photos, and enjoy each village at our own pace. We especially appreciated the maps and clear instructions at every stop, which made everything very easy. If you’re visiting Provence and don’t want to drive, this tour is an excellent choice. We had a wonderful day.
5Great trip
Very enjoyable tour. Nicolas is a great guide - very friendly and knowledgeable. Great scenery and picturesque villages. The ochre cliffs at Roussillon are amazing.

About Avignon
Avignon is a walled Rhône city where the popes lived in the fourteenth century, known for its vast palace, a broken bridge and a summer theatre festival.
From 1309 to 1377 the popes governed the Catholic Church from Avignon, and the Palais des Papes, a huge Gothic fortress of pale stone, still rises above the old town. Medieval ramparts more than four kilometres long surround the centre. The Pont Saint-Bénézet, the Pont d'Avignon of the nursery song, stops halfway across the Rhône, with only four of its arches left.
Top-ranked sights in Avignon: Roussillon, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Pont du Gard.
