  • 3Tour to Blue City - not as expected

Comments below of our experience on this fully guided tour and transportation to the Blue City: 1. Driver- no communication what to expect on long drive(seat belts, no water offered, no bathroom break). 2. Random stop by police: driver had not stressed seat belt laws. One in our party was asked to exit the vehicle after the driver. The person was questioned, asked to see their passport then written a citation along with a request to pay $300 dirham. Very scary and avoidable if clear instructions had been relayed at the start of the trip. Unclear why the driver was not cited. The driver DID NOT explain nor request we buckle our seat belts. 3. The remainder of the tour was ok needed a bit more structure to point out historical and popular photo op sights. Dropping into a carpet and spice store could be eliminated unless requested.

  • 5Family trip

Best way to get to and experience Chefchaouen. The driver picked us up from our hotel and a spacious, comfortable van with air conditioning. He accommodated my families needs during the longer drive from Rabat. Upon arrival, a local guide greeted us and gave us a wonderful history and walking tour of the Blue City. He also took us to a delicious restaurant, Ban Ssour, for lunch. Glad we did this.

  • 5Exactly what we hoped for

The summer heat motivated our decision to drive versus rail. Twice our train cars have had inadequate air conditioning as to make the travel miserable in July. The drive to Chefchouion was very pleasant. We talked, watched the unexpected landscape, napped, and listened independently to our audio books, podcasts or music. Our driver offered stops for bathroom breaks or a cool drink. Our local guide was waiting for us when we arrived. He was accommodating to our needs. My father's abilities are limited due to Parkinsons. Our guide modified the route and provided a unique and very enjoyable afternoon. The city itself is beautiful and unlike any where else. We were happy with with the whole experience.

  • 5Excellent tour of Blue City

Badr was my driver who was a very nice young man. He made stops on the way for me since I am into photography and wanted certain shots. It was a long day of approximately 4 hours each way from Rabat with 4 hours in the Blue City. This visit was a highlight of my 3 week trip to Morocco. Weather was perfect, great driver and tour guide Hazim who knew everyone in the city and perfect photo spots. I had told him I didn’t need lunch or shopping, just wanted to sightsee and take photos and see what used to be the Jewish section of town. I had free time at end to climb tower in square for views. Perfect day and would highly recommend. It was over $300 just for me but was worth it!

About Rabat

Rabat is Morocco's calm Atlantic capital, with a hilltop kasbah, a medieval tower, a royal mausoleum, Roman ruins at Chellah and a river-mouth beach.

Rabat lies on the Atlantic coast at the mouth of the Bou Regreg river, facing its twin city Salé across the water. The Kasbah of the Udayas, a 12th-century fortress with blue-and-white lanes and an Andalusian garden, stands on the cliff above the river mouth. Nearby, the Hassan Tower is the unfinished minaret of a mosque begun in 1195, surrounded by rows of broken columns. The mausoleum of Mohammed V, guarded by horsemen, stands opposite.

Top-ranked sights in Rabat: Hassan Tower (Tour Hassan), Kasbah of the Udayas (Casbah des Oudaïas), Mausoleum of Mohammed V (Mausolée de Mohammed V).
