Itinerary

  1. The most architecturally refined of Fez’s theological colleges was built by the Merinid sultan Bou Inan between 1351 and 1357. Beyond the massive brass entrance doors, its interior courtyard is a masterpiece of elaborate zellige tilework, carved plaster and beautiful cedar lattice screens. Smaller courts off either side functioned as classrooms, and students lived upstairs.

    40 minAdmission included

  2. The place Saffarin derives its name from the manufacture of copper metal which is used to make traditional crafts, this profession is being practiced in the city of Fez for centuries. There are many products made by artisans like pots, pans, buckets, incense burners, trays, teapots, tea and sugar boxes, footed, strainers, kettles, couscous steamers... Even though new tools have been introduced over time, the place still maintains its sense of Traditional character. The Place is surrounded with business where you can buy all types of products made in the place.

  3. Founded in the 9th century and home to the oldest university in the world, Fez reached its height in the 13th–14th centuries under the Marinids, when it replaced Marrakesh as the capital of the kingdom. The urban fabric and the principal monuments in the medina – madrasas, fondouks, palaces, residences, mosques and fountains - date from this period. Although the political capital of Morocco was transferred to Rabat in 1912, Fez has retained its status as the country's cultural and spiritual centre.

  4. No one visits Fez without passing by Bab Boujloud at least once. It is virtually impossible, as the gate (bab in Arabic) serves as an excellent navigation point for the lost wanderers trying to find their way through the busy streets of the Fez medina. But Bab Boujloud is much more than just a handy reference point on a map. Its glittering mosaic tiles and grand archway have made it one of Morocco’s most famed gateways and a sight you definitely won’t want to miss as you discover the city of Fez.

    10 min

  5. The largest of the medina's several tanneries, Chouara is one of the city’s most iconic sights (and smells). Operating since at least the 16th century, the area was heavily renovated in 2016, but the scene, viewed from the surrounding balconies, remains remarkably medieval. It's striking to see the hard physical labour that goes into the butter-soft, elegant leather goods sold in the surrounding workshops. Try to get here in the morning when the pits are awash with coloured dye.

About Casablanca

Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and economic engine, an Atlantic metropolis of Art Deco boulevards, a seaside corniche and a monumental mosque.

The Hassan II Mosque stands on a platform over the ocean, its minaret among the tallest in the world and its prayer hall decorated with carved cedar, marble and zellige tilework by thousands of craftsmen. It is one of the few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslim visitors can enter, on guided visits.
