Itinerary
10-minute stop for the first glimpse of the Douro Wine Region landscape, a World Heritage site, and for photos
Here in Pinhão, we will start to discover the River Douro and its slopes, now through a different perspective provided by a tourist boat tour for about 45 minutes. The beautiful Villa de Pinhão is located on the right bank of the river Douro, in the heart of Alto Douro Vinhateiro where are located many of the main wine producing farms of Porto.
We follow trails that snare between vineyards and villages, reaching the Miradouro de Loivos, known as a “veranda over the Douro and the Pinhão”. From above, the landscape is impressive, offering a unique perspective on the valleys and the course of the river Douro. the region was rich and exported wine and, Mostly olive oil. While the Vandals remained for a short time in the region, the Visigoths founded a kingdom that lasted until the arrival of Muslims from North Africa and the Near East.
We will walk through vineyards, visit the quinta chapel and its viewpoint, tours of the cellars and wine tastings
Lunch and wine tasting at Quinta do Lodeiro. In Peso da Régua, you will visit the Quinta do Lodeiro, a historic property that combines rustic charm with contemporary comfort. The farm offers an elegant environment with swimming pool, chapel, beautiful gardens where we can find one of the Pombaline landmarks that once delimited the Douro Demarcated Region, as well as its cellars and proof room. Here, we will enjoy a harmonized lunch with a selection of Douro and Porto wines, providing a true immersion in the local flavors. Lunch includes entries, main dish, dessert and coffee. At the end, we will visit the cellars, where we will try Porto wines with 10, 20 and 30 years of aging.
The Bagaúste Dam is located between the municipalities of Peso da Régua and Lamego, 4 km up from the city of Régua, at km 105 of the Douro navigable road (distance from the river foz). It was inaugurated in 1973. The dam has a displacement of about 27 meters, and it is through its enclosure that the cruise boats that sail between the Régua and the Villa do Pinhão pass. The dam is located along the road N222, which connects Régua to Pinhão, and there is a parking lot nearby. Here, visitors can park and observe the cruise boats crossing the enclave — a process that can take up to 30 minutes and often attracts many curious people to see the boats pass.
Covelinhas viewpoint, one of those places where you perceive the grandeur of the Douro water mirror and its terraces. Place that offers fantastic sensations.
Stop at the famous Miradouro de San Leonardo da Galafura. This point offers spectacular panoramic views over the River Douro and the vineyard-covered slopes, providing a perfect opportunity for unforgettable photographs.
