Experience the best of Uluru
Uluru is a huge red sandstone monolith in the desert of Australia's Northern Territory, sacred to the Anangu and the centrepiece of a World Heritage park.

Uluru rises 348 metres above the flat red plain of Australia's Red Centre, and a walk of about 10 km circles its base, passing waterholes, rock art and cliffs fluted by wind and rain. It is sacred to the Anangu, the traditional owners, who share its stories at the cultural centre in the park. The park is listed as a World Heritage site for both its natural and its cultural value.
Kata Tjuta, a cluster of rounded red domes also known as the Olgas, stands west of the rock, with the Valley of the Winds walk winding between them. The resort village of Yulara lies just outside the park, and Alice Springs, the nearest large town, is a long day's drive to the north-east. Watarrka National Park, with the sandstone walls of Kings Canyon, lies a few hours' drive away.
Colour is the main event here: the rock glows ochre and deep red at sunrise and sunset, and after rare heavy rain it streams with waterfalls. Bush foods such as wattleseed, quandong and kangaroo appear on local menus. The cooler months from May to September suit walking, while summer afternoons can pass 40 degrees.
