Experience the best of Toulouse
Toulouse is the Pink City of south-west France, built of rose-red brick, with a great Romanesque basilica, a canal and a long aerospace history.

Toulouse earns its nickname, la ville rose, from the warm brick of its buildings, which glows in the evening light along the Garonne. The Basilica of Saint-Sernin, a Romanesque church begun in the eleventh century and a stage on the pilgrim road to Santiago, is one of the largest surviving Romanesque churches in Europe. The Capitole, the city hall, faces a broad square lined with cafés, and the Jacobins convent has a famous column that fans out like a palm tree.
The Canal du Midi, a World Heritage waterway, runs along the edge of the city towards the Mediterranean, and cyclists and walkers follow its plane-lined towpath. Aerospace is part of the city's story: the Cité de l'Espace and Aeroscopia museums show rockets and aircraft, including a Concorde. Albi, with its fortress-like brick cathedral, and the walled city of Carcassonne are each within about an hour's drive.
Cassoulet, a slow-baked stew of white beans, sausage and duck confit, is the city's great dish, and Toulouse sausage is served grilled with mashed potato. The violet is the flower of the city, in sweets and liqueur, and the markets sell Gascon duck, ham and cheese. Rugby is the local passion, summers are hot, and spring and autumn are gentle.
