Experience the best of Sandusky

Sandusky sits on a bay of Lake Erie in northern Ohio, a port and resort city with a historic downtown of stone and brick buildings. Cedar Point, an amusement park on a peninsula opposite the city that began as a beach resort in 1870, is famous for its tall roller coasters, and Sandusky Bay is a sheltered stretch of water for boating and fishing.

Ferries leave for the Lake Erie islands, among them Kelleys Island, Put-in-Bay and Middle Bass. The Merry-Go-Round Museum, in the old post office, shows carved carousel horses, and Johnson's Island, in the bay, was a prison camp for Confederate officers in the Civil War. Cleveland lies to the east and Toledo to the west along the lake shore.

Fried Lake Erie perch and walleye are the local order, and ice cream stands do steady business in summer. The lake cools the shore in summer and delays the first frosts, and winter brings snow.
