Experience the best of Chicago
Chicago is a Great Lakes city on Lake Michigan, famed for skyscraper architecture, deep-dish pizza, blues and jazz and a long lakefront of parks.

Chicago rebuilt itself after the fire of 1871 and became the cradle of the skyscraper. The Chicago River runs through the Loop, where tall towers rise, and boat tours explain the architecture from the water. Millennium Park's mirrored Cloud Gate sculpture, known as the Bean, and the Art Institute of Chicago, with its Impressionist paintings, are close together. Willis Tower has a glass-floored observation deck.
Along Lake Michigan, the Lakefront Trail passes beaches, Navy Pier and the Museum Campus with the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium. The Museum of Science and Industry is in Hyde Park near Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House, and his home and studio are in Oak Park. Wrigley Field, from 1914, is a baseball shrine. Indiana Dunes National Park lies across the state line to the south-east.
Deep-dish pizza, Italian beef sandwiches and the Chicago-style hot dog, piled with toppings but never ketchup, are local rites. Chicago is a home of blues and jazz, and clubs fill the evening. Summers are warm with festivals, autumn is crisp, and winters are bitterly cold and windy; May to October is best.
