The city's fame rests on its theme parks. Walt Disney World spreads across four parks southwest of town, from the Magic Kingdom's fairy-tale castle to Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. Universal Orlando adds movie-themed thrill rides and immersive themed lands, and SeaWorld and a string of water parks complete the circuit.

There is more to the area than rides. Downtown's Lake Eola Park, the leafy avenues and boat-lined lakes of Winter Park, and the busy stretch of International Drive each show a different side. Natural springs such as Wekiwa offer clear, cool water for swimming and paddling, and airboats skim the wetlands in search of alligators and wading birds.

The Kennedy Space Center on the Atlantic coast is an easy day trip, as is the surf town of Cocoa Beach. Florida's warm climate means outdoor days nearly all year: winter and spring are dry and pleasant, while summer brings heat, humidity and brief afternoon thunderstorms. Visiting the busiest parks on weekdays and outside school holidays helps.
