Experience the best of Port Antonio

Port Antonio sits on a bay facing the Caribbean, in the parish of Portland, with hills rising steeply behind the town. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries it was a busy port for the banana trade, and its quiet streets still hold buildings from that era.

The Rio Grande, the river that flows near the town, is crossed by bamboo rafts that drift through a gorge of rock and jungle. The Blue Lagoon, a pool of strikingly blue water, and Reach Falls, a series of stepped pools, lie within reach. Frenchman's Cove, a sheltered beach, is a few minutes away.

Jerk pork and chicken, ackee and saltfish, and fresh fish from the harbour make up the local menu, and Boston Bay, east of the town, is known for its jerk stalls. Portland is the wettest part of Jamaica, with showers in every month, and hurricane season runs from June to November, so the drier months from December to April suit visitors best.
