Falmouth, the parish capital, was once one of the busiest ports on the island, and it keeps one of the finest collections of Georgian buildings in the Caribbean, including its courthouse and old Anglican church. Cruise ships call at its harbour, and the historic streets are pleasant to walk.

The Luminous Lagoon at Glistening Waters is one of the few places in the world where microscopic organisms make the water glow at night, and a boat trip after dark is magical. Bamboo rafts drift down the Martha Brae River through lush forest, and the rugged Cockpit Country inland, a landscape of limestone hills and sinkholes, is home to rare birds and Maroon heritage.

Trelawny is known for its yams and as the parish where Usain Bolt grew up, and jerk and seafood are the local favourites. Montego Bay and its airport lie a short drive west, with Ocho Rios to the east. The dry season from December to April is the most popular time, and the hurricane season runs through summer and autumn.
