Dunn's River Falls is the famous sight, a series of limestone cascades that visitors climb hand in hand from the beach up through the spray. Nearby, the Blue Hole, a chain of jungle pools and falls, offers rope swings and cliff jumps, and forested hills above the town carry zip lines and a chairlift through the canopy.
Gardens such as Shaw Park bloom with tropical plants, and the Green Grotto Caves lie along the coast to the west. White-sand bays and coral reefs invite snorkelling, and the town's craft market and bars fill up when cruise ships call. Nine Mile, the birthplace of Bob Marley, lies in the hills inland, and Firefly, Noël Coward's former home, gazes over the coast to the east.
Jerk, curry goat, ackee and saltfish and fresh tropical fruit fill the local table. December to April is the driest and most popular stretch, while summer and autumn are hotter and within the hurricane season. Port Antonio and the misty Blue Mountains, famous for their coffee, are within a longer drive.
