Experience the best of Mirleft

Mirleft is a small Atlantic coastal town about 106 km south of Agadir, on the road between Tiznit and Sidi Ifni. The town climbs a low hill above a string of sandy and rocky coves, with a few cafés and guesthouses around its main street. Argan trees cover the dry slopes inland, and the mountains of the Anti-Atlas rise behind them.

Beaches here are long and quiet, popular with surfers, and the red sandstone cliffs at Legzira, a short way south, are among the coast's best-known sights. Sidi Ifni, a Spanish enclave until 1969 with Art Deco buildings, lies further down the coast, and Tiznit, a walled town known for silver jewellery, is to the north. Inland, the granite hills and painted rocks around Tafraoute make a day trip over the Anti-Atlas.

Fish grilled on the beach, tagines, couscous and argan oil, used in cooking and in amlou, a dip of almonds and honey, make up the local table, with mint tea to finish. The cool Atlantic keeps summers mild and mornings often hazy. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons, with long dry days.
