Experience the best of Lingui County

Lingui is a district of Guilin, in the north-east of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and lies in the western part of the city's territory. It was a county until 2013. It shares the karst scenery for which Guilin is famed, steep green limestone peaks rising from rice fields, rivers and orchards. The district is mostly rural, with the town of Lingui as its seat.

The Li River, Elephant Trunk Hill and Reed Flute Cave in Guilin are a short way off, and the terraced rice paddies of Longji lie further to the north-west. Lingui is a centre of production for luo han guo, or monk fruit, grown on mountain slopes and used as a sweetener and in herbal tea.

Guilin rice noodles, served in a spiced broth with pork or beef, are the everyday meal, and the chilli sauce of the region goes on almost everything. Guilin takes its name from the sweet osmanthus trees whose scent fills the autumn air. The climate is warm and wet, with the heaviest rain in spring and early summer.
