Krabi's scenery is built from limestone: sheer cliffs rise from the sea and forest, and the coast breaks into bays and offshore islands. The provincial town sits on a river estuary and has a night market. Ao Nang is the main beach resort, and Railay, a peninsula reachable only by boat, has pale sands, sea caves and a world-known rock-climbing scene.

Longtail boats run to the Four Islands, with a sandbar and snorkelling, while larger boats go to the Phi Phi islands and the lagoons of the Hong Islands. Inland, the Emerald Pool and the Hot Springs Waterfall are forest pools, and Tiger Cave Temple has more than a thousand steps up to a hilltop Buddha. Mangrove channels can be explored by kayak, and Koh Lanta lies south, reached by road and ferry.

Southern Thai food is hot and rich: massaman and sour curries, fresh seafood grilled at the pier, and roti with banana and condensed milk from Muslim stalls. November to April is the dry season, best for beaches and boats. From May to October the monsoon brings heavy rain and rougher seas, so some trips run less often.
