Experience the best of Ennetbuergen

Ennetbürgen is a village in the canton of Nidwalden, about 7 km south of Lucerne, on a sheltered bay on the southern shore of Lake Lucerne. The wooded ridge of the Bürgenstock rises directly behind it, and walking paths climb to the top, where a cliffside trail leads to the Hammetschwand lift, an outdoor lift 153 metres high that is the highest of its kind in Europe.

Lake Lucerne offers swimming, sailing and paddle-boarding in summer, and passenger boats link the towns around its shores. Stans, the Nidwalden capital, and the Stanserhorn, reached by a cable car with an open upper deck, are a short drive away, and Lucerne, with its covered Chapel Bridge and lakefront, is close by.

Central Swiss food includes Älplermagronen, macaroni baked with potato, cheese and onions and served with apple sauce, and perch fillets from the lake. Summer is the lake season, spring and autumn are good for hiking, and in winter low cloud often sits over the lake while the ridge above is bright with sun.
