About Xian
Xi'an, capital of many Chinese dynasties and the start of the Silk Road, is home to the Terracotta Army and intact Ming city walls.
The Terracotta Army, found by farmers digging a well in 1974, stands in vast pits outside the city: thousands of life-size clay warriors, horses and chariots buried to guard the tomb of Qin Shi Huang, China's first emperor. Each figure has its own face, and the scale is staggering.
Top-ranked sights in Xian: Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum (Terracotta Warriors), Xi'an City Wall (Chengqiang), Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayanta).
