Admire its elegant blend of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, and discover treasured religious artworks, including the revered statue of the Black Madonna and collections illustrating the life of the Virgin Mary.
Stroll through the lively Place de la Halle, the heart of Beaune’s market life. This charming square is home to local vendors offering fresh produce, regional specialties, and organic products, providing an authentic glimpse into Burgundian daily life.
Marvel at the world-famous Hospices de Beaune, one of France’s most prestigious historical monuments. Renowned for its striking Gothic architecture and colorful glazed-tile roof, this former medieval hospital was founded to care for the poor and remains closely associated with Burgundy’s celebrated wine heritage.
Continue past the historic Beffroi, Beaune’s medieval clock tower, built between the 13th and 14th centuries. Over the centuries, it has served as both a watchtower and a museum, standing today as an enduring symbol of the town’s history.
Discover the monument dedicated to Étienne-Jules Marey, the pioneering French scientist born in Beaune. Famous for his innovations in physiology and motion studies, Marey is notably credited with inventing the sphygmograph, an early device used to measure pulse activity. The monument was inaugurated in 1913, and the surrounding square proudly bears his name.
Pass by the monument honoring Gaspard Monge, the distinguished French mathematician and founder of descriptive geometry. His remarkable contributions to science earned him a place among the 72 celebrated names engraved on the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Explore the historic ramparts of Beaune, originally constructed to defend the city against invaders. These impressive fortified walls once protected much of the old town and remain a testament to Beaune’s medieval past.
Your tour will also include a visit to the Mural de la Grande Vadrouille, a tribute to scenes from the beloved 1966 French film La Grande Vadrouille.
