Its Gothic architecture and centuries-old presence make it a focal point of cultural and spiritual significance. As one enters its sacred space, they are immersed in the deep-rooted history and reverence that define this venerable structure.
Old Stavanger, known as Gamle, is a historic district in Norway's Stavanger. Dating back to the 18th century, it offers a glimpse into the city's past with its well-preserved wooden houses and cobblestone streets. 5Perfect for travellers on limited time in the city
A great way to understand what to see, especially if you are short on time. Our guide Andrea was friendly and knowledgeable and we had a great visit to Stavanger.
5Good way to experience Sta
The guide was very informative, spoke clearly, waited for the stragglers in the group to catch up before the started telling us about the particular point of interest.
5Informative and fun walking tour.
What a fabulous couple of hours spent wandering Stavanger. Before the start we had clear communications on the meeting point, timings and then the guide herself contacted to confirm she was en route. All very reassuring. The meeting point was very convenient from our cruise ship and the walking pace steady and comfortable. Our guide Andrea was friendly, knowledgeable and her English was excellent. We had a fun “game” throughout the walk picking numbers and then learning Norwegian words and understanding about the language. We visited some key sites and throughout the walk Andrea made recommendations of places and museums we could return to after the walk ended. A lovely two hours spent and we feel we know Stavanger much better now. Excellent value for money. Definitely recommend.
4Dina (not Andrea) was...
Dina (not Andrea) was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information about Stavanger. Very nice manner. The only negative was that she did not realise we were on a cruise or where the ship was docked. If she had asked this, we could have seen the sights in a good order, ending up near the ship. We met in Alexander Kelland square so could have gone to the oil museum first, then the coloured streets, the lake and then the old town, finishing by the ship. We did not do everything we should have done.
5Interesting City
I liked how I could see the city from a local’s eye. We had lovely conversations as well.
5Good tour around the city
It was a nice way to see the city on foot and know just the right amount of info about each monument. Totally recommend it :)

About Stavanger
Stavanger is a harbour city in south-west Norway, with a wooden old town, a medieval cathedral, its oil history and the fjords of Rogaland beyond.
Stavanger stands on a peninsula in Rogaland, south-west Norway, with a harbour lined with warehouses, cafés and wooden buildings. Gamle Stavanger, the old town, has rows of white wooden houses on cobbled lanes, and the cathedral, begun in the 12th century, is among the oldest in Norway. Oil discoveries in the North Sea from the 1960s made Stavanger the country's oil capital, a story told in the Norwegian Petroleum Museum on the waterfront.
