About Hohhot
Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia, is a northern city of Buddhist temples and mosques, with grasslands and Mongolian herding culture beyond its edge.
Hohhot, whose Mongolian name is usually translated as Blue City, lies on a plain beneath the Daqing Mountains, not far from the northern bend of the Yellow River. The old quarter has Tibetan Buddhist temples: Dazhao Temple, founded in the sixteenth century and also called the Silver Buddha Temple, and the Wuta, or Five Pagoda, Temple, of the eighteenth century, whose main pagoda has a Mongolian star chart carved on its rear wall.
Top-ranked sights in Hohhot: Dazhao Temple, Inner Mongolia Museum, Five-Pagoda Temple (Wuta Si).
