Itinerary
The most ambitious project of Mexico City in the 20th century, a university city houses the future of Mexico, where the most important intellectuals that our country has produced have studied, such as the Nobel Prize winner Octavio Paz. It was built as a function of the architecture with the murals of Rivera, Siqueiros, O Gorman among other artists that we will explain to you in detail.
Commissioned by Diego Rivera, in 1931 Juan O'Gorman designed one of the first functionalist buildings in Latin America: a house for the painter and another for his wife Frida Kahlo, where each would have their own studio. It is located in the south of Mexico City and is dedicated to preserving the memory of the muralist and his wife; as well as the study and analysis of his artistic generation.
The site stands out for its extensive collection of pre-Hispanic art, as well as for its Ecological Space that houses endemic flora and fauna. Rivera designed the architectural work in order to protect his vast collection of pre-Columbian pieces, while exhibiting the most beautiful works of this complex in the main building. On display are 16 sketches for different murals made by Rivera in the early 1930s. In them, one can admire the mastery of classical composition learned by the muralist in his youth. About Mexico City
Mexico City is a vast, high-altitude capital built over the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan, rich in museums, murals, markets and outstanding food.
The Zócalo, one of the largest squares in the world, is framed by the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace, where Diego Rivera's murals tell the story of Mexico. Beside them, the excavated Templo Mayor reveals the heart of the Aztec capital, and the Palacio de Bellas Artes, with its marble exterior and Art Deco interior, stands a short walk west.
Top-ranked sights in Mexico City: Teotihuacán, Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Frida Kahlo Museum (Museo Frida Kahlo).
