The destination joins two towns, lively Cabo San Lucas and the more traditional San José del Cabo, linked by a coastal corridor of beaches, golf courses and resorts. At Land's End, the famous rock arch of El Arco rises from the water where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific, with Lover's Beach tucked behind it.

The Sea of Cortez is rich in marine life, and the bays of Santa María and Chileno are ideal for snorkelling, while Cabo Pulmo National Park to the northeast protects a thriving coral reef. Humpback whales pass close to shore through the winter months, and sport fishing for marlin draws anglers. San José del Cabo's art district, mission church and shady plaza make for a gentle evening stroll.

Food runs from fish tacos and fresh ceviche to farm-to-table dining in the desert hills. The sun shines most of the year: winter and spring are warm and dry, summer is hot, and late summer into autumn is the rainy season. Many Pacific-facing beaches have strong surf, so swimming is safest in the calm coves on the sheltered side. Todos Santos, an artsy town up the Pacific coast, makes a good day trip.
