Experience the best of Mexico City
Mexico City is a vast, high-altitude capital built over the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan, rich in museums, murals, markets and outstanding food.

The Zócalo, one of the largest squares in the world, is framed by the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace, where Diego Rivera's murals tell the story of Mexico. Beside them, the excavated Templo Mayor reveals the heart of the Aztec capital, and the Palacio de Bellas Artes, with its marble exterior and Art Deco interior, stands a short walk west.
Chapultepec Park holds a hilltop castle and the National Museum of Anthropology, home to the Aztec Sun Stone. The leafy neighbourhoods of Roma and Condesa are full of cafés, galleries and Art Deco buildings, and Coyoacán has the Blue House where Frida Kahlo lived. Colourful trajineras float along the canals of Xochimilco, and the pyramids of the Sun and Moon at Teotihuacan lie an easy trip north.
Food is one of the city's great pleasures: tacos al pastor, tamales, quesadillas from street stands, rich moles and inventive modern cooking. The dry season from about November to April brings sunny days and cool nights, and at its start the Day of the Dead fills markets and cemeteries with marigolds, sugar skulls and candlelit altars. At more than two thousand metres, the sun is strong and the evenings fresh.
