Itinerary

1. We will begin our adventure by meeting the only woman in the town dedicated to making alebrijes, the most popular craft in Oaxaca. First, we will purify our energy with the copal incense that she gives us. You will be able to meet your spiritual and protective animal, which are part of the Zapotec culture.

2. We will visit a family workshop where women are dedicated to making textiles on a backstrap loom, one of the oldest weaving techniques in Zapotec culture. They make shoulder bags, table runners, placemats, purses, bracelets, belts, and more.

3. We will visit the only workshop in Oaxaca dedicated to making mirror frames, true art! It is a group of women who make baroque mirror frames in wood, covered with gold leaf and fine silver. They have also participated in the restoration of different temples in Oaxaca.

4. To end this beautiful experience, we will visit an artisanal mezcal distillery, where a young woman is fulfilling her dream of making her own mezcal and we will be fortunate to taste more than 8 of their mezcals, admiring a beautiful sunset, and we will also learn about the entire ancestral production process in their distillery.

5. Lunch time: We visited a traditional restaurant, with delicious Oaxacan dishes such as moles, roast beef, tlayudas, memelitas, vegetarian food and delicious natural fruit drinks

About Oaxaca City

Oaxaca City is the colonial capital of Oaxaca state, a stone-built highland city of markets, mole, mezcal and Zapotec ruins nearby.

Oaxaca de Juárez sits in a high valley at about 1,500 metres, its centre built of pale green stone around a shaded zócalo. The baroque church of Santo Domingo, with its gilded interior, and the attached former convent, now a cultural museum, are the grandest sights. Streets run with market stalls, painted walls and courtyard cafés, and the historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
