  3. Waimea Bay sits on the legendary North Shore of Oahu, where the ocean meets the island with power and grace. In the winter, it’s a world-famous surf spot, known for massive waves and expert riders testing their limits. In the summer, the water calms to a glassy, turquoise pool perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and cliff jumping. The surrounding cliffs and golden sand give the bay a dramatic, almost sacred feeling. It's part of a larger cultural landscape, where Hawaiian history and nature still speak. Nearby, Waimea Valley offers a short hike through botanical gardens to a waterfall, adding another layer to the experience. Whether you’re drawn by the thrill or the quiet beauty, Waimea has a way of leaving a mark.

  4. Puaʻena Point Beach Park is a laid-back spot just east of Haleʻiwa on Oʻahu’s North Shore. It’s a favorite among surf schools and beginners, thanks to its mellow waves and forgiving reef breaks . The beach is tucked behind a grove of ironwood and palm trees, offering natural shade and a quiet atmosphere. The shoreline is a mix of sand and lava rock, with tide pools along the edges. You might spot Hawaiian green sea turtles resting on the beach or grazing on the rocks . The water near shore is calm, making it easy to wade in or paddle out. If you’re looking for a relaxed beach with a local feel and a good spot to learn to surf, Puaʻena Point is worth a visit.

About Oahu

Oahu pairs Waikiki's famous beach and Honolulu's city life with volcanic craters, rainforest valleys and the legendary surf of its North Shore.

Waikiki's crescent of sand, backed by hotels and the volcanic crater of Diamond Head, is the island's classic image, and the hike to the crater rim gives sweeping views. Downtown Honolulu holds ʻIolani Palace, home of Hawaiʻi's last monarchs, and the memorials at Pearl Harbor, including the USS Arizona Memorial, recall the attack of 1941.

Top-ranked sights in Oahu: Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach, Dole Plantation.
