Highlights

Koblenz has spent two thousand years organising itself around one stubborn fact: this is where the Rhine and the Moselle meet. This self-guided walking tour follows that story on foot, from the Electoral Palace, the last great residence of Trier's prince-electors, through the old town to the Deutsches Eck, where the two rivers finally collide. Everything runs from your own smartphone, and there is no app to download. You get a map of all 8 stops, simple directions between them, a short audio story at each location and an interactive quiz that turns the walk into a game. Along the way you meet the fortress-like Prussian Government Building, the spitting Schängelbrunnen, the Baroque Four Towers, the eye-rolling clock on Florinsmarkt and the Basilica of St. Castor, where the Carolingian Empire was carved up in 842. Start whenever you like, walk at your own pace, stop for coffee, and pick the route back up when you are ready. About 2 km and roughly 90 minutes.

About Koblenz

Koblenz stands where the Moselle meets the Rhine, with a promontory called the German Corner, a hilltop fortress and the gateway to the Rhine castles.

Koblenz lies at the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle, in Rhineland-Palatinate. The tip of land between the rivers, the Deutsches Eck, or German Corner, is marked by a tall monument topped by an equestrian statue of Kaiser Wilhelm I. A cable car crosses the Rhine to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, a huge 19th-century Prussian stronghold on a rock, with views of both rivers.
