The Fort of Mont Alban is a military fortification in the city of Nice. Built between 1557 and 1560 after the 1543 Siege of Nice, on the eponymous hill between Nice and the harbor of Villefranche-sur-Mer, it is one of the rare examples of military architecture from the mid-16th century in France

About Villefranche-sur-Mer
Villefranche-sur-Mer is a small Riviera port on a deep natural harbour, with ochre houses above the quay, a citadel and a chapel painted by Cocteau.
Villefranche-sur-Mer climbs a steep hillside around a deep natural harbour just east of Nice, its ochre and pink houses stacked above the quay. The town was founded in 1295 by the Count of Provence, and the sixteenth-century Citadelle Saint-Elme still guards the water, with the town hall and small museums inside. The Rue Obscure, a vaulted medieval passage running under the houses, is one of the oldest streets in town.
