About Würzburg
Würzburg is a Franconian city on the River Main, with a Baroque palace, a hilltop fortress, a bridge lined with saints and a wine-growing river valley.
The Residenz, a Baroque palace built for the prince-bishops in the eighteenth century, is a World Heritage site, with a grand staircase under a ceiling fresco by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo that is one of the largest anywhere. Above the river on the west bank, the Marienberg Fortress, long the bishops' stronghold, overlooks the city and its vineyards.
Top-ranked sights in Würzburg: Old Main Bridge (Alte Mainbrücke).
