Experience the best of Wilsons Promontory National Park
Wilsons Promontory, the southernmost point of mainland Australia, is a granite peninsula of white beaches, wombats and coastal walking tracks.

Known as the Prom, the park fills the peninsula that ends at South Point, the southern tip of the Australian mainland, about 180 km south-east of Melbourne in a straight line. Granite headlands and long beaches face Bass Strait. The camping area at Tidal River sits where a tea-coloured river meets a wide, sheltered beach, and Squeaky Beach has fine white quartz sand that squeaks underfoot.
A walking track climbs Mount Oberon for views over the whole peninsula, and longer tracks lead to Sealers Cove, Refuge Cove and the lighthouse at South East Point. Wombats, kangaroos and emus graze on the flats near Tidal River. Offshore waters form a marine national park, and the farm towns of Foster and Fish Creek lie on the road out of the park.
South Gippsland is dairy country, so cheese, ice cream and farm produce fill the roadside stops, and fish and seafood come from the coast around Corner Inlet. Summer is the warmest and busiest season, autumn is calm and clear, winter is wet and windy, and spring brings heathland wildflowers. Weather on this exposed coast can turn quickly in any month.
