Experience the best of Rockaway Beach

Rockaway Beach lies on Oregon's north coast in Tillamook County, where a long, straight beach of fine sand stretches for many kilometres along the Pacific. The beach is backed by low dunes, a main street of small shops and a little lake, Lake Lytle, in town, and Twin Rocks, a pair of sea stacks one of which is pierced by an arch, rises offshore just south of town.

Nehalem Bay State Park, on a spit to the north, has a long beach and an estuary for paddling. Manzanita, a beach village, lies beneath Neahkahnie Mountain, which has a view down the coast, and Oswald West State Park has old forest above the sea. Cape Meares, with its small lighthouse and an oddly shaped spruce called the Octopus Tree, lies to the south, near Tillamook.

The dairies of Tillamook County supply cheese and ice cream, and fish and chips, Dungeness crab and smoked salmon are the coastal plates. Winter storms are dramatic, summers are mild with morning fog, and grey whales pass offshore.
