Experience the best of Lake George

Lake George is both a village and a long, narrow lake about fifty kilometres in length, lying between wooded mountains on the south-eastern edge of the Adirondacks. Clear, cold water, many small islands and steep wooded shores give it an Alpine look, and the village at its southern end has a lakefront of beaches, shops and old-fashioned cottages.

Fort William Henry, a reconstruction of the British fort, was the scene of a siege and massacre in 1757 that inspired The Last of the Mohicans, and Fort Ticonderoga stands near the lake's northern outlet. Prospect Mountain gives a view over the whole lake, Adirondack Park surrounds the water with trails, and Saratoga Springs and Glens Falls are a short drive south.

Adirondack maple syrup, lake trout and ice cream suit the lakeside. Summer is the resort season, with cruises on the water, October brings brilliant autumn colour, and the lake freezes over in winter.
