Experience the best of Giza
Giza, on the edge of Cairo, is home to the Great Pyramid, the Sphinx and a desert plateau that has drawn travellers for thousands of years.

The plateau holds three great pyramids, built for the pharaohs Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, along with smaller queens' pyramids and rows of nobles' tombs. The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still standing, and the Great Sphinx keeps watch below, carved from the bedrock beside Khafre's valley temple.
A viewpoint to the southwest shows all the pyramids lined up against the sky, and camel or horse rides across the sand are a classic way to reach it. Beside the plateau, the Grand Egyptian Museum displays a monumental collection of ancient Egyptian art. South along the Nile, Saqqara's step pyramid, the Bent and Red pyramids of Dahshur and the ruins of Memphis make a rewarding half-day circuit.
The plateau is at its finest early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the light softens and the heat eases, and after dark a sound and light show plays across the monuments. The cooler months from autumn to spring suit exploring best, and many visitors pair Giza with the mosques and markets of central Cairo.
