Experience the best of Echuca
Echuca is a Murray River town in northern Victoria, a former inland port where paddle steamers and a red gum wharf recall the riverboat age.

Echuca sits at the meeting of the Murray, Campaspe and Goulburn rivers on the border with New South Wales, facing the town of Moama across the water. In the late nineteenth century it was one of the busiest inland ports in the country, where paddle steamers and barges loaded wool and timber, and its long red gum wharf, built on three levels to cope with changing river heights, survives.
Paddle steamers still run from the wharf, among them the Pevensey, used in the television series All the Rivers Run, and the Adelaide, built in 1866 and still steaming. Barmah National Park, a vast wetland of river red gums, lies to the east, and the streets near the wharf hold old pubs, workshops and shops from the riverboat era.
Murray cod and yabbies come from the river and appear on local menus. Summer days are hot and dry and the river is busy with houseboats, while winter brings frosts and morning mist over the water.
