Experience the best of Düsseldorf
Düsseldorf is a Rhineland city of art, fashion and business, with a riverside promenade, an old town of brewpubs and modern harbour architecture.

Düsseldorf spreads along the east bank of the Rhine, and the riverside promenade below the Old Town is where the city gathers. The Altstadt is packed with brewpubs serving altbier, a dark copper beer, and is nicknamed the longest bar in the world. Close by, the Rheinturm television tower rises above the Medienhafen, a former harbour now lined with sculptural buildings by Frank Gehry and other architects.
The Königsallee, or Kö, is the grand shopping boulevard, running along a canal lined with chestnut trees. The Kunstsammlung NRW has a fine collection of modern art, including Paul Klee, and the poet Heinrich Heine was born in the city. Benrath Palace, a pink building in landscaped grounds, lies south of the centre, and the Neanderthal Museum at Mettmann stands where the first Neanderthal fossils were found in 1856. Cologne is about forty kilometres up the Rhine.
Besides altbier, the city has Killepitsch, a herbal liqueur, and its own mustard, and the Rhenish dish called Himmel un Ähd, black pudding with potato and apple, appears in brewpubs. Immermannstraße is the heart of a large Japanese community, with ramen shops and sushi bars. Carnival processions fill the streets in late winter, and summer evenings belong to the riverbank.
