Itinerary
The basilica of San Domenico is one of the most important churches in Siena and is located between the square of San Domenico and via della Sapienza. The chapel of Santa Caterina is famous
Historic site of the oldest bank in the world. The palace was built in the 14th century, expanding a pre-existing 12th or 13th century castle of the Salimbeni family, resting on the early medieval walls near the church of San Donato.
Piazza del Mercato is much older than the famous Piazza del Campo: in fact, when the former was already home to the city market and the Mint of the Sienese Republic
The most important public fountain in the city, located in Piazza del Campo, was greeted with exultation by the citizens when it was inaugurated in 1346.
Piazza del Campo is the main square of the city of Siena. Unique for its particular and original shell shape, it is renowned all over the world for its beauty and architectural integrity, as well as for being the place where the Palio di Siena takes place twice a year.
The history of the building is strongly linked to that of the arrangement of the overlooking Piazza del Campo.
The Torre del Mangia is located in Piazza del Campo in Siena; it is the civic tower of the town hall. It is among the tallest ancient Italian towers
The metropolitan cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is the main Catholic place of worship in Siena, Tuscany, the episcopal seat of the metropolitan archdiocese of Siena-Colle di Val d'Elsa-Montalcino; the building is located in the square of the same name, in Terzo di Città.

About Siena
Siena is a medieval Tuscan hill city of red-brown brick, known for its shell-shaped main square, its striped cathedral and the twice-yearly Palio.
Siena was Florence's great rival in the Middle Ages, and its historic centre, a UNESCO site, still looks much as it did then. Il Campo, the shell-shaped square, slopes down to the Palazzo Pubblico and its slender tower, the Torre del Mangia. The cathedral, striped in white and dark green marble, has a pavement of inlaid scenes and a library of painted manuscripts.
Top-ranked sights in Siena: Piazza del Campo, Siena Cathedral (Duomo di Siena), Mangia Tower (Torre del Mangia).
