About Fort Myers
Fort Myers is a Gulf Coast city on Florida's Caloosahatchee River, with palm-lined avenues, Edison's winter home and island beaches nearby.
Fort Myers stands on the Caloosahatchee River in south-west Florida, inland from the Gulf of Mexico, and is known as the City of Palms. Thomas Edison built a winter home and laboratory here in 1886, and Henry Ford later bought the house next door; the two estates are now open as a museum with a botanical garden. Royal palms line McGregor Boulevard.
