5Historical Highlights
We were picked up by Samir (our driver) and Samira (our guide) at a time of our choosing in a comfortable modern mini van for our family of 5. Samira introduced herself and described the tour schedule and a little of the history of Alexandria as we drove to start our tour at the Catacombs followed by the Roman Theatre and Citadel. She explained the history and relevance of each site and we had some free time to explore as a family by ourselves which made for a relaxing day out. Lunch was included at a seafood restaurant overlooking the sea. The freshly baked bread and dips as well as the fish were delicious. As it was a Friday we were unable to enter the Bibliotheca Alexandria as it was closed. An easy day out with family to see the highlights of Alexandria. Thank you Samira and Samir for your hospitality.
5Excellent All Round.
We had an excellent experience in Alexandria with our lovely guide Sherihan and our skilled driver. Driving in Alexandria is not for the faint hearted! We had booked a private tour and it was worth every penny. Alexandria is not a city that we would have been comfortable exploring on our own and we are experienced and intrepid travellers. From the initial communication and pick up through to drop off everything was great. We visited the Catacombs, the Library, the Mosque, the Ampitheatre and the Citadel - plus an ice cream stop. What a great day with lovely people.
5Great private tour

5Reem was great
My guide Reem knew all the spots to get the best photos. She gave a very detailed introduction at every spot, and was very interesting. Having a guide also made us feel safe during the visit.
5Best way to see Alexandra’s sites.
We were able to pick a start time that suited us. Our guide Mohamed took us to all the top sites and we hot see more than we would have with out him. Our driver was also exceptional in navigating Alenadras streets.

Mahmoud’s practical experience as an archaeologist and scholar and his wide ranging in-depth knowledge of the history of Alexandria, delivered with enthusiasm to share his knowledge, made the ancient to recent history come alive for us. About Alexandria
Alexandria, Egypt's Mediterranean port, was founded by Alexander the Great and holds Roman ruins, a harbour fort and a modern library by the sea.
Alexander the Great founded the city in 331 BC, and for centuries it was the capital of Ptolemaic Egypt, with a great library and the Pharos, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The lighthouse fell to earthquakes, and the Citadel of Qaitbay, a fifteenth-century fort on its site, now guards the harbour mouth. The Corniche runs for miles along the bay in front of tall, weather-worn apartment blocks.
Top-ranked sights in Alexandria: Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, Roman Amphitheatre, Citadel of Qaitbay (Fort Qaitbey).
