    15 min

  2. Hauptmarkt is the beating heart of Nuremberg’s civic and social life. The square is dominated by the beautiful Frauenkirche and the famous Schöner Brunnen, and it is also where the city’s world-famous Christkindlesmarkt takes place during the Christmas season.

    15 min

  3. The Old Town Hall represents the political, administrative, and judicial importance of Nuremberg during the Renaissance. Its impressive Italian-influenced façade stands above the historic dungeon cells, offering a fascinating glimpse into the city’s medieval justice system.

    15 min

  4. St. Sebaldus Church is a magnificent symbol of Nuremberg’s power and independence as a Free Imperial City. Its combination of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, together with the shrine of St. Sebaldus, reflects the wealth and ambition of the city’s powerful patrician families.

    15 min

  5. Hangman’s Bridge is a picturesque covered wooden bridge crossing the Pegnitz River, but it also has a darker history. It tells the fascinating story of Nuremberg’s executioner, who was an essential part of the medieval justice system but lived as a social outcast away from the rest of the city.

    15 min

  6. Weißgerbergasse is one of the most beautiful and authentic medieval streets in Nuremberg. Its colorful timber-framed houses survived the destruction of World War II and provide a fascinating glimpse into the daily life of the city’s historic craftsmen and tanners.

    15 min

  7. Tiergärtnertorplatz is a charming historic square and an important cultural center of Nuremberg. The area is closely associated with Albrecht Dürer, one of the great masters of the Renaissance, and reflects the city’s importance in art, printing, science, and intellectual life.

    15 min

  8. The Imperial Castle is one of the most important symbols of Nuremberg’s imperial past and the perfect finale to the tour. Its impressive towers, defensive walls, and panoramic views allow visitors to understand the city’s transformation from a powerful medieval stronghold into the modern city rebuilt after World War II.

About Nuremberg

Nuremberg, in Franconia in northern Bavaria, is a walled medieval city of sandstone churches, an imperial castle and Christmas markets.

Nuremberg's old town sits inside a ring of medieval walls, crowned by the Kaiserburg, the imperial castle that was a residence of Holy Roman emperors. Below it, half-timbered houses and sandstone churches line the lanes by the Pegnitz river. The painter Albrecht Dürer lived in a house near the castle that is now a museum, and the Hauptmarkt square is dominated by the ornate Beautiful Fountain. Much of the old town was rebuilt after the Second World War.
