  • 4Day in Neuschwanstein Castle

Hohenschwangau castle is owned by the Wittelsbacher Ausgleichsfonds (the Wittelsbach family's compensation fund) rather than a private individual, and it holds deep historical significance as the childhood home of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. If you are interested in learning about Ludwig II probably a good idea to do this one. It was okay nothing too spectacular

  • 2Massive miscommunication - extremely disappointed

We booked this tour to pick us up at the a specific time and place at the Zurich airport. After waiting over an hour we were able to get wifi connected through the airport (I had forgotten to activate international calling on our cell phones). We communicated via email with the provider who had not tried to call during that hour. The provider told the driver we were coming in on a flight and would call. I have no idea where the driver waited but it was another 40 minutes before we were picked up - now 1 hour 40 minutes late. We had timed tickets to Neuschwanstein and the driver was not certain we would make it in time. We did with 3 minutes to spare but he had been driving at between 90 and 140 kpm. The driver had never been to Neuschwanstein which was troubling because I would have expected a driver with knowledge of the route (he did have navigation). Our return trip was uneventful but the day started out very frustrating and we worried the entire drive whether we would make it on time. I would ask for a refund but I doubt we would get one. That said, the driver, Pascale, was nice and polite and the vehicle was very clean.

About Füssen

Füssen is a small Bavarian town in the Allgäu Alps, close to Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles, with a medieval centre of its own.

Füssen lies in the Allgäu, in the far south of Bavaria, where the Lech River leaves the Alps and the Austrian border is only a few kilometres away. Its medieval centre has narrow lanes, painted houses and the High Castle, whose walls are decorated with painted windows, while the baroque monastery of St Mang stands beside the river. The town has long been a centre of lute and violin making.
