Miyajima’s most famous landmark and one of Japan’s most celebrated Shinto shrines. Founded over 1,400 years ago, the shrine is renowned for its elegant vermilion buildings built over the water and its iconic floating torii gate, which appears to rise from the sea at high tide. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Itsukushima Shrine offers visitors a unique blend of spiritual significance, architectural beauty, and stunning coastal scenery, making it one of Japan’s most unforgettable cultural treasures.
The vibrant heart of Miyajima, lined with traditional shops, local eateries, and souvenir stores. This lively pedestrian street is the perfect place to experience the island’s culture and flavors, offering specialties such as freshly grilled oysters, conger eel dishes, and the famous maple leaf-shaped momiji manju cakes. Strolling along Omotesando allows visitors to enjoy Miyajima’s welcoming atmosphere while discovering local crafts, snacks, and unique gifts.
Mount Misen Ropeway offers a scenic journey to the upper slopes of Mount Misen, the highest peak on Miyajima Island. As the cable cars glide above dense forests and rugged granite formations, visitors are treated to spectacular panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea and its many islands. From the upper station, a short walk leads to several observation points and hiking trails, making the ropeway one of the best ways to experience Miyajima’s natural beauty and breathtaking landscapes.
One of Miyajima’s most important and atmospheric Buddhist temples, nestled at the foot of Mount Misen. Founded over 1,200 years ago, the temple is known for its serene gardens, ancient halls, prayer wheels, and hundreds of charming stone statues that line its pathways. Surrounded by lush forest, Daisho-in offers a peaceful retreat from the island’s busier areas and provides visitors with a deeper insight into the spiritual traditions that have shaped Miyajima for centuries.

About Hiroshima
Hiroshima, on Japan's Seto Inland Sea, is a rebuilt river city whose Peace Memorial Park and museum recall the atomic bombing of 1945.
Hiroshima spreads across the delta of the Ōta River, whose channels, bridges and trams give the city an open feel. The atomic bomb of 6 August 1945 destroyed most of it. The Peace Memorial Park beside the river holds the Atomic Bomb Dome, a ruined building left standing and listed by UNESCO, the Peace Memorial Museum and the Children's Peace Monument.
