4Fabulous family day out.
Terrific day out & staff very friendly & accomodating ensuring we all got photos with the birds. Visited with 7 year old granddaughter who was not scared, but advise young kids not familiar with large birds may find it a bit much. We booked with RACQ & got a small discount - all savings count nowadays. Great day out.
3A Disappointing Experience with Our Tour Guide, Jess
I would have said we had a wonderful day if it weren’t for our tour guide, Jess. From the moment we arrived, she seemed irritated and was quite rude throughout the day. She didn’t have a microphone and spoke very loudly, which seemed to stress the birds and caused them to fly around and call whenever she started speaking. My mother doesn’t speak English, so she misunderstood an instruction and accidentally went a little further than she should have. Jess spoke to us quite harshly. I explained that my mother doesn’t speak English, but Jess simply said she couldn’t know that. I explained that this is a tourist attraction and that not everyone speaks English, so some patience and understanding should be expected. Unfortunately, she became even more annoyed. At the end of the tour, a black cockatoo landed on me, which was one of the main reasons I visited., but Jess allowed the bird to remain on everyone else, yet immediately removed it when it landed on me. After I asked her to remain calm earlier, it felt as though she was deliberately preventing me from taking a photo, almost as if it were revenge. She did not give me even a moment to enjoy the experience or take a photo. The other guide was calm, friendly and welcoming, which made the contrast very noticeable. I understand that rules need to be followed, but visitors can make mistakes when they do not fully understand an instruction. As this is a tourist attraction, the guides should assume that not every visitor speaks English fluently and should communicate with patience, clarity and understanding. Jess should learn to communicate with people more politely and patiently. I hope management takes this feedback seriously.
5Simply wonderful
Wow! We were a party of 6, 2 kids and 1 adult in wheelchair, staff couldn't have been more accommodating and caring! Just LOVED the birds, such a wonderful experience! Gardens are stunning, and the fairy cottage beautiful, even to the 2 little boys. Cafe was really good and the scones were the biggest in the world! All in all a wonderful experience and we will be back!
5Was really lovely...
Was really lovely experience… the whole botanic gardens was lovely and the bird sanctuary was a definite highlight. Very lovely afternoon!
5Birds overload.
Great experience, not a fan of caged birds, but this is several large enclosures. Felt the smaller areas could do with more greener.I know you want to see the birds, but felt uncomfortable they didn't have much foliage The Macaws had a huge enclosure & the up close & personal experience was awesome, peacock performed with a magnificent display, but of course it is mating season. Turn your hearing aids down if you have them!!
5Superb and such fun for the whole family
This is our second visit to this amazing place. The aviary experience was once again superbly guided by Lydia. We had a golf buggy and a very filling picnic lunch provided by the team. I would recommend this very highly as a must stop destination for visitors and locals alike.
