Itinerary
See Kobe through the eyes of someone who calls it home—discovering the city’s contrasts, character, and everyday rhythm with a local host who knows it intimately. Before your experience begins, you’ll complete a short online Personalization Form so we can design a route based on your interests—whether you’re drawn to culture, food, architecture, or hidden gems. Here are some highlights to inspire your journey:
Begin at one of Japan’s oldest Shinto shrines, quietly nestled within the heart of the city. Your host will share the story of its founding and guide you to nearby paths and sacred spaces that offer calm within Kobe’s urban center.
Stroll through this covered arcade lined with shops, snack stalls, and retro storefronts. Your host will highlight local favorites, family-run businesses, and unique finds that blend the area’s old-school charm with modern Kobe culture.
Explore Kobe’s compact but vibrant Chinatown, where colorful streets and delicious aromas lead the way. With your host, discover hidden alleyways, regional delicacies, and cultural stories you won’t find on the main tourist trail.
Walk the lively waterfront promenade, home to stylish cafés, public art, and panoramic views of the bay. Your host will share how this area has evolved and point out lesser-known spots where locals relax, shop, and take in the scenery.
Finish your experience in this open-air park by the harbor, where sculptures and green space offer a peaceful close to your walk. Reflect on the day’s discoveries with views of the water and insight into Kobe’s identity as a resilient port city.

4Great Tour To Get To Know Kobe
Thank you so much Kristin for leading such a wonderful tour of Kobe! We really appreciated how you tailored the experience to the sites we wanted to see. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and love of the city with us. It made all the difference in making our visit memorable.
5Totally Fabulous Day and Tour
We are glad we chose this tour guide as our small wish list was taken onboard and delivered perfectly. We asked for Samurai, Sake and Good food and got the lot. 6hrs goes fast . Kirsten was a fantastic host for the day.
5Great Tour and tour guide to explore Kobe
We totally enjoyed this tour, our guide thoroughly researched our areas of interest and took us on a well guided 6 hr adventure from start to finish. We would totally recommend Kirsten for those looking to explore Kobe.
5Leave it to the locals
We left our day in our guide, Ryan's capable hands. When he suggested a visit to a herb garden, we were somewhat sceptical, but WOW, it was fantastic and totally unexpected. A real hidden gem. After exploring the Nunobiki Herb Gardens we made our way through Kitano with their well preserved merchant homes. And no visit to Kobe would be complete without sampling their beef. Ryan took us to an area known only to locals, where we had lunch. The Ikuta Shrine was a touch of serenity before hitting Chinatown and the end of our walking tour.
5Personable and interesting tour
We had so much FUN with Rio. He went beyond our expectations when he asked what we wanted to experience. He shifted what he planned to do, and took us to what our interests were. His knowledge was vast, and his love for his city was evident. His English was excellent. We would highly recommend him!

About Kobe
Kobe is a port city on Osaka Bay, set between the sea and the Rokko mountains, known for its beef, foreign-style hillside houses and hot springs.
Kobe is a long, narrow city squeezed between Osaka Bay and the Rokko Mountains, which rise steeply behind it. It opened as a treaty port in 1868, and its foreign merchants left a hillside district, Kitano, of European-style mansions, churches and cafés. Nankinmachi is a compact Chinatown. At the harbour, the red Port Tower and the Meriken Park waterfront look out over the bay.
