THE MUD ITSELF WAS AMAZING. The price for this trip is only for the transportation, lunch and beach club. Was not told of the additional fees which added up to another 40. We were told there was photos not aware that they were going to take pictures woth your phone. We thought they were collecting our shoes, sunglasses and phones because of the mud. We could have left them on the bus. We were told there was bathers to assist with getting the mud off afterwards. They take you to i believe it was part of the ocean but it was full of rocks have you sit down and dump bowls of water on top of your head constantly. I had to tell my father to stop I couldnt take it anymore. The beach club meal was great but we just sat around a pool that had floating debris in it. The local people were walking into the beach club trying to see you items.

  • 3Muddy Waters

Getting into the warm, natural volcanic mud was an unique experience. The stairs to/ from the volcano are narrow and steep. Only a handful of people can be in the mud basin comfortably at once. You may have a little wait at the top or on the staircase. Carry small bills preferably in Colombian pesos for the additional services (person to take picture while in mud bath, person to massage you in mud bath, person to hold your sandals while in mud bath and woman to rinse you off with lagoon water). The women that rinse you off are pushy and resistant to the first or second NO Gracias. What sullied the trip for me was another group had a small dispute about which vendor received payment for services. The tour guide allowed all off the vendors both men and women to physically board the bus. I found this act to be disorganized and unsafe.

The experience itself was ok. I just felt so harassed having to tip everyone. I won't do this again.

  • 5Beware

This experience was in deed a 10/10 experience! Highly recommend! Our tour guide was great! However be aware of the tipping when going. They do not tell you that you have to tip the guys that takes your pictures or the guys in the mud volcano that gives you the massage and helps you in and the ladies that tries washing you off. As soon as we got in the volcano they automatically grab you and gets to work without your consent where as the experience was a 10/10 just be aware of that part. They will also hound you for their tip and they are not accepting anything other than $5 (usd) or More and they will tell you that. The area doesn’t have any bathrooms or showers really to use after the mud volcano. You get picked up at your hotel if you’re staying outside of getsemani and walled city, otherwise the meeting spot is at the dock under the Pegasus statue.

  • 1Disappointed

Trip was canceled 2 hours prior to pick up which ruined our last day in Cartagena. Sufficient Prior notice should have been given.

About Cartagena

Cartagena, on Colombia's Caribbean coast, is a walled colonial port of flower-draped balconies, colourful plazas and warm, music-filled evenings.

The walled old city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a maze of cobbled streets and squares lined with pastel houses, churches and bougainvillea. The Clock Tower gate leads into Plaza de los Coches, and the cathedral, the Church of San Pedro Claver and the Palace of the Inquisition are all within a few blocks. Walking the thick ramparts at sunset is a local ritual.

Top-ranked sights in Cartagena: Rosario Islands (Islas del Rosario), Old Town Cartagena, Santo Domingo Church (Iglesia de Santo Domingo).
