Experience the best of Cali
Cali, in Colombia's Valle del Cauca, is the country's salsa capital, a warm city of river parks, hill viewpoints and sugar-cane plains.

Cali lies in the wide valley of the Cauca River, with the Western Andes rising to the west. The Cali River runs through the middle of town, and the colonial San Antonio neighbourhood on its hill is full of small cafés and craft shops around a white chapel. La Ermita, a Gothic-style church beside the river, and the Cristo Rey statue on a western ridge are landmarks.
Salsa is the city's calling card, with dance schools, clubs and open-air stages filling the evenings, and the Feria de Cali in late December centres on the music. The Farallones de Cali national park, with cloud forest and waterfalls, rises to the west, and Pance, a river valley south of the city, is a popular weekend swimming spot. The Pacific port of Buenaventura is a few hours' drive away.
Sugar-cane country sets the table: sancocho de gallina, a chicken stew, aborrajados, fried ripe plantain filled with cheese, pandebono cheese bread, and cholado, a cup of shaved ice with fruit and condensed milk. Champús, a drink of maize, lulo and pineapple, is a Valle del Cauca classic. An afternoon breeze keeps the warm days comfortable most of the year.
