Highlights
This full-day tour covers central Fukuoka's landmarks with an English-speaking guide, available by public transport or private vehicle, meeting at Hakata Station. Start at Fukuoka Tower, a 234-meter landmark with an observation deck offering views over the city and Hakata Bay. Continue to Ohori Park and explore the stone walls and gates of Fukuoka Castle Remains, built in the early 17th century. The tour continues into Tenjin, Kyushu's largest shopping district, and Canal City Hakata, a complex built around a canal. With a private vehicle, the day extends to Dazaifu Tenmangu, a historic shrine to the deity of learning 14km from central Fukuoka, featuring a shop-lined approach and arched bridges. Given the distance, the public-transport version stays within central Fukuoka, completing a compact loop of five city-center stops. Local specialties like tonkotsu ramen can be enjoyed at your own expense, and the itinerary can be adjusted within the allotted time.

About Fukuoka
Fukuoka, on the north coast of Kyushu, is a relaxed port city of temples, riverside food stalls and ramen, facing Korea across the sea.
Fukuoka is the biggest city on Kyushu, formed from two old towns, the merchant port of Hakata and the castle town of Fukuoka, on either side of the Naka River. Hakata keeps temples such as Tochoji, with a large wooden seated Buddha, and Shofukuji, said to be Japan's first Zen temple, founded in 1195. The ruins of Fukuoka Castle lie beside Ohori Park, with its large lake and walkways.
