Highlights

Fly over the Barossa Valley in a private helicopter, then land on a hilltop for a romantic picnic for two. Lift off from Barossa Helicopters in Lyndoch in a Robinson R44, just the two of you and your pilot. The 10-minute scenic flight crosses the southern Barossa vineyards, over Jacob's Creek, Lyndoch and the Whispering Wall. Then touch down on a private hill in the Hoffnungsthal Valley, on the family's 400-acre property, with 360-degree views. Your picnic is set up and waiting: cushioned seating, a gourmet platter of cheese, fruit, nuts, meats and biscuits, and a bottle of Shiraz, sparkling or white. The helicopter then flies you back to base. About 2 hours, daily at 12 noon. One price covers you both, and you can upgrade to a 20 or 30-minute flight if you also want to. Barossa Helicopters is South Australia's longest-running helicopter company, flying the Barossa since the mid-1980s.

About Adelaide

Adelaide is a relaxed, green capital of South Australia, laid out as a grid inside a ring of parkland, with wine country and beaches close by.

Colonel William Light planned Adelaide in 1837 as a tidy grid of streets and five squares, then circled it with the parklands that still separate the centre from the suburbs. North Terrace lines up the state library, art gallery, museum and university, and the Torrens River runs through the middle, with the Adelaide Oval on its bank. Rundle Mall and the Central Market cover shopping and food.

Top-ranked sights in Adelaide: Mt. Lofty, Kangaroo Island, Adelaide Oval.
