They have been used in Japan for more than 2,000 years. Japanese chopsticks are usually made of wood and have a thin, pointed tip, which makes it easy to pick up small pieces of food. In Japan, people often give chopsticks as gifts because they represent good relationships and connection between people. We hope this chopstick-making experience becomes a wonderful memory for you!

5Aussies in Sapporo
A great family active experience with a fantastic souvenir to take home. We all really enjoyed it and our host was awesome.
5Beautiful handmade souvenirs
From the moment I made our reservation, the communication with the instructor was fast and reliable giving me answers to any concerns or questions. Such responses were greatly appreciated since we were unfamiliar with Sapporo. Wonderfully, it was a short walk from our hotel in Susukino. The workshop where the class was held was easy to find especially since the instructor waited outside the building with a clear sign. The worship area was easily accessible by elevator. Erica and Hina clearly and patiently instructed us in English with constant attention. The class was organized and all supplies were provided. There was a varied range of woods with concise explanations of each type for our selection. Guidance throughout the process is patient, friendly and supportive. They even provided a variety of decorations and packaging styles which enhanced our handmade chopsticks. It was truly an enjoyable hour or more with a beautiful and practical souvenir as a result of our own work. We emphatically recommend this workshop while in Sapporo. Arigato, Erica and Hina!
55-Star Family Fun!

Fun experience with great guide. About 1.0-1.5 hours to go through all the stages. Would recommend.
5Excellent Hands-on Experience!
Each of our family members thoroughly enjoyed making our chopsticks. From selecting the wood to shaving and sanding, we were engaged and never rushed to finish. We were given expert guidance from the instructor who learned from her grandparents. It's an authentic experience. We walked to their studio using Google Maps. Taxi's are plentiful if you prefer. We highly recommend this tour for people that enjoy hands-on, creative experiences.
5Great class, great instructor - highly recommend!
Fantastic class making our own chopsticks! Our Sensei was extremely kind and helpful. The studio has a nice atmosphere and the process is definitely therapeutic and relaxing. Highly recommend!

About Sapporo
Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, is a grid-planned city of wide parks, an annual snow festival, miso ramen and mountains close behind.
Sapporo was laid out as a grid in the 1870s, when Japan's government developed the northern island, so its streets are wide and straight, split by Odori Park, a long green strip through the middle. The red-brick former Hokkaido government building and the white clock tower, both from the Meiji period, recall that era, and the Hokkaido Shrine lies in a wooded park in the west.
Top-ranked sights in Sapporo: Odori Park (Odori Koen), Susukino, Sapporo TV Tower.
