Itinerary
your guide will pick you up and you will go ahead to Alexandria’s ancient library which was one of the greatest of all classical institutions, and while replacing it might seem a Herculean task, the new Bibliotheca Alexandrina manages this with aplomb. Opened in 2002, this impressive piece of modern architecture is a deliberate attempt to rekindle the brilliance of the original centre of learning and culture. The complex has become one of Egypt’s major cultural venues and a stage for numerous international performers, and is home to a collection of brilliant museums.
Then you will visit The Roman Amphitheater which is one of the most popular monuments in Alexandria City . Amphitheaters quite spread during the reign of the Romans. They were in different countries like Greece, Italy, and Turkey. They are present in many regions around Europe and the Middle East. Roman Amphitheater Alexandria is the only one of its type in Egypt . The word “Kom El Dekka” in Arabic, means the hill of rubble or the hill of the benches. It named when a famous historian, El Neweiry, passed by this area in the beginning of the 20th century . El Neweiry saw the many piles of rubble and sand. The formed due to the digging of the Mahmoudeyya Canal at the end of the 19th century. The canal linked Alexandria to the Nile River. These piles looked exactly like some huge benches. El Neweiry was the one who gave the area its recent famous name. The Roman Amphitheater Alexandria indeed is one of the most important Roman architectural achievements in Egypt .
The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa are important enough that UNESCO has named them a World Heritage Site. In the catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, you can find artifacts from many different times that have been kept in great shape. Some of these things are ancient Egyptian and Roman tomb inscriptions. In the year 1900, a donkey accident led to the discovery of carved tombs and burial chambers in a cave.
Pompey's Pillar Alexandria is a Roman triumphal column in the city of Alexandria, Egypt. It is the largest of its type. In fact, it constructed outside of the imperial capitals of Rome and Constantinople. Pompey’s Pillar Alexandria is the only which known free-standing column in Roman Egypt. Moreover, it not composed of drums. It indeed is one of the largest ancient monoliths. Moreover, it is also one of the largest monolithic columns which ever erected.
The museum contains more than 1,800 archaeological artifacts that include all eras, starting from the ancient state to the modern era. These pieces depicts the civilization; culture; arts; and industries of Egypt during these ages. It also shows the unity of history and the Egyptian personality through the exhibits that illustrate all the stages that Egypt’s history passed through, the national and historical event. It was first represented in the Egyptian Pharaonic background, as it is the oldest of the Egyptian civilizations, then came the Ptolemaic; Roman; Byzantine and Islamic eras, and ended with the era of the modern era, which begins with the rule of the Muhammad Ali family and ends with the 1952 AD revolution.
The Royal Jewelry Museum displays the collectibles of the Egyptian royal family, founded by Muhammad Ali Pasha in 1805 and continued to rule for 150 years, until 1952. Zaynab Fahmi built the palace in 1919 in Zizinya, Alexandria. It served as the residence of Fatma al- Zahra’, daughter of Prince Ali Haider, a descendent of Muhammad Ali Pasha. The palace serves as a striking backdrop to the magnificent possessions owned by the family. It uniquely merges between European and Islamic styles, reflecting the fine taste of the royal family whose paintings, gilded ceilings, and mosaics decorate the palace rooms. The palace consists of two wings, eastern and western, connected by a corridor. Each wing has a basement and two floors.
Sultan Qaitbey built this picturesque fortress during the 14th century to defend Alexandria from the advances of the Ottoman Empire. His efforts were in vain since the Ottomans took control of Egypt in 1512, but the fortress has remained, strategically located on a thin arm of land that extends out into Alexandria’s harbor from the corniche. The fortress’ current form is not the original. It was heavily damaged during the British bombardment of Alexandria during a nationalist uprising against British hegemony in 1882 and rebuilt around the turn of the 20th century.

3Our guide was good and...
Our guide was good and knowledgeable. During the tour he convinced us that it was would a great experience to take a cruise. We thought it was an extra excursion offered by the company and we agreed. When we saw the boat, we knew it was anything but. It was a small old and filthy boat and we smelled the exhaust for the whole 45 minute cruise. What was worse, it was used by his friend to ferry people from one boat to another. Our actual cruise was perhaps 25 minutes with no commentary. After the cruise, I asked the guide about the "surprise visit" to the church or the mosque. He told us that it was too far away. When I asked him why he did not factor that in with the planning, he had no answer. We then realized that he was trying to earn some money on the side. This is so unfortunate as he did a good job on the other included sites.
5Amazing! Eye opening! Highly recommend!!!
Wessam was a fantastic guide. Friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Very good English and a very nice lady.
5Alexandria the Great Tour
The experienced guide, Ms Naela was very detailed in her explaination throughout the trip. Communication with the guide was very easy, and she made us feel welcomed. The tour length was just nice, not to short or too lengthy. The best part of the tour was at the citadel where the light house of Alexandria used to be. It was amazing to be at one of the ancient wonder of the world.
5Incredible Alexandria in a day
We had an amazing day trip to Alexandria from Cairo. Our driver Ayman was punctual , kind and courteous. Naelah met us in Alexandria and created a perfect day for us . We visited the catacombs, the library, the citadel , mosque and cathedral. Naelah is super knowledgeable about everything in her home city and nothing was too much trouble. She also arranged a lovely meal (vegetarian ) at the famous fish restaurant and even a visit to buy quality essential oils. We will never forget this lovely day. We were transported home by Mustapha, quickly and safely no fuss. Highly recommend.
5Good tour of Alexandria
Mahmoud was a great driver and Dina our guide provided wonderful commentary on the museums, library and catacombs we visited along with the history of the city. Lunch was good as well. We enjoyed discovering Alexandria and recommend the tour.
4Good experience for the tastes of Alexandria
Friendly driver (Mohamed) and fun tour guide (Mahmoud). Mahmoud is very knowledgeable. We had a good time at Alexandria, especially the touring of Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, and the delicious seafood lunch with great ocean view. The rest of the destinations felt a little bit rushed for our private group (4 people). We wished that Mahmoud would always accompany us during the tour (like in Catacombs) for some other destinations (where he let us go by ourselves except the introduction at beginning of the each visit.

About Cairo
Cairo is Egypt's sprawling capital on the Nile, where the Pyramids of Giza meet medieval mosques, busy bazaars and the treasures of the pharaohs.
On the western edge of the city, the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx rise from the desert plateau, with the step pyramid of Saqqara and the ruins of Memphis further south. Cairo's great museums, the Egyptian Museum on Tahrir Square and the vast Grand Egyptian Museum beside the plateau, hold artefacts spanning thousands of years.
