Port Lincoln sits on Boston Bay at the southern end of the Eyre Peninsula, about 250 km west of Adelaide across the gulf. Tuna farms lie out in the bay and nearby waters, a large fishing fleet works from the marina, and the waterfront looks over moored boats and a long jetty. Lincoln National Park, a short drive south of town, has sheltered beaches, limestone cliffs and bush tracks for walking.
Whalers Way, a coastal sanctuary on the wild coast south-west of town, has high limestone cliffs and blowholes. Further out to sea, the Neptune Islands are known for sea lions and great white sharks. West along the coast, Coffin Bay and its national park are about 50 km away, with oyster leases in a quiet inlet and long empty beaches facing the Southern Ocean.
Seafood is the local pride, from oysters and King George whiting to tuna, abalone and prawns, and most menus in town lean on what the boats bring in. Summers are warm and dry with sea breezes, winters are mild and wetter, and spring and autumn are comfortable for coastal walks.
